Story of the week: Manuel & Cristina

Meet Manuel and Cristina : both have had their lives changed by Polio – but both have never let it hold them back. Manuel explained how his wife had an aluminum chair once a long time ago. It had fallen apart from so much use, so she took it to get it repaired. Since they had no money to pay for the repair, the chair was sold - leaving her with no chair and no way to get around independently.

Cristina was left without a chair, and her husband did what he could to keep her spirits up. Their lives changed one afternoon when Free Wheelchair Mission, through LifeMissions, heard about their situation and gave them 2 new wheelchairs.

Now they are both able to go out, do housework, and take care of themselves. They make their living by designing colorful greeting cards from Amazonian feathers, and are caretakers of a local church.

Now with their 2 new wheelchairs, getting around the house, church, and around their community is no problem, their faces are never without smiles, and their hearts are always full with gratitude of having their mobility back.
